Will Robots Replace us
all
There
is so much excitement out there about Robots helping to make our lives better,
They will clean our homes and cook our food and do many other tasks that we may
consider a burden. But can a good thing, become bad very quickly?
During the
Christmas shipping season we all saw how Amazon was using robots to fetch items to be shipped. It was remarkable to watch, but remember these
jobs used to be done by humans. How many people did those robots replace?
I am all for
businesses doing what they have to do to help their bottom line and also be
more efficient. In my business of Property Management in Orange County Ca. I am
always looking for ways to be more efficient. Lets face it, a Robot, once it is
paid for, is much easier to deal with than a person. All a robot requires is
maintenance. It does not ask for a raise, it does not need a break or a lunch
hour, and it will never join a union.
What is the down side for a business to
use a Robot work force to replace a human work force?
I was watching
a show last night and there was an explanation on how Robots are making
advances that may scare many of us. It used to be that in order for a Robot to
do anything, information would have to be put in to the Computer of the Robot.
But now, Robots are taking data and actually using that data to interpret what
the data means, the Robot is not just taking in information, but it is thinking
about all the information and coming up with a conclusion, yes it is now
thinking like a person. That may seem
fun and interesting now, but what will it be like in 5 or 10 years? What will a
Robot be able to do, and who will a Robot be able to replace?
As people
today, we want everything fast and it seems as though the less human
interaction we have the better. There are even commercials on TV that touts not
having to talk to anyone. Would we really fight the rise of the Robot, if it
means that we will not have to talk to any one? Are we to blame, do to the fact
that people seem to always be complaining about something? I think that people
are whining their way out of jobs and into obscurity and obsolescence.
I am always
intrigued by a company out here in So Cal that sells High end cars. Their
commercials always talk about how they take care of their customers and how
they try to anticipate their customers every desire. You can even get your car
washed any time you are in the area. I love this type of customer service and I
know people who have purchased cars from this dealership and they say that the
commercials are correct, they do care about their customers. That dealer ship
is Fletcher Jones Motorcars. I do not have a car from there, but I have yet to
hear a complaint about them, but I sure there are some. You cant please
everyone but when I hear about a company that does try their best, I am
impressed. The point is, will a Robot ever care about it’s customers? I don’t
think so.
We as people
should embrace technology, but we should tread very lightly when it comes to
Robots and what jobs we are willing to give them. Maybe we should start talking
to each other again.
