What is important about Memorial Day?
This weekend we will celebrate the Memorial Day Holiday and the
importance of this Holiday is immense. Most of us today have never served in
the Military and the reason we have a choice is that there have been many
people who have given their lives for us to have the freedom we have today.
When you talk to solders who survived their tours, they are proud of their
service and they are also mindful of the soldiers who never made it back home.
We lose thousands of World War Two Veterans every month and
in a few years they will all be gone, so the firsthand accounts of what they
went through and the memory of the soldiers who never made it home, will also
be gone. It is our responsibility to remember the sacrifice of those who gave
their lives for our freedom and to at least take a few moments this weekend to
think about how lucky we are that those who served and sacrificed their future
for our sake were willing to do what they did.
There is something special about people who are willing to
give their lives for people that they don’t even know. Most of us have a hard
time understanding the sacrifice that not only those who serve go through, but
also their families, especially those families who lose their loved one to war.
The loss to Wives, Children, Parents and Friends of the fallen are burdened
with the pain of their loss and we need to let those who are left behind know that
their loved ones are not forgotten and their sacrifice is also not forgotten.
I was talking to a Veteran the other day and she was telling
me that her son, who is also in the military, has a very hard time with buying
food for his family. This is unforgivable from a country that waists more money
on stupid things. We need to give our Vets and their families whatever they
need to live and the VA needs to be revamped so that all who serve will get the
care they deserve.
Thank you to all who serve now, to all those who have sacrificed
in the past and to those families who have lost their loved one for the sake of
all of us, thank you, your sacrifice is not forgotten.
