Am I just stupid?
I talked about a week ago, about how I trusted my clients
and had part of my commission used to get them through Escrow and they were
going to pay me back after Escrow. I still have not received any money and just
received an e-mail today that the check is in the mail. I don’t know how much
but I guess I will find out.
The thing that bothers me more then not receiving the money
yet, is that in the e-mail my buyer told me what a great job I did and was
sorry for the misunderstanding.
In my opinion, there was no misunderstanding
there was just someone holding my money that I earned.
My question from the start was, Am I just stupid? If I were to answer my own question, I would
have to say, yes I am stupid! I should be smarter than to think that I could
trust people when I comes to money, especially a substantial amount. I can’t
use the excuse of age, because I am 52 and have been around a long time. I want
to tell myself that trusting, that people would do the right thing is not a bad
way to live, but I really don’t believe that. I just blew it and if I get my
money or at least a good portion of it, I am lucky.
In my business of Property Management in Anaheim Ca. I have
to re focus my thinking on trust and make sure I remember this situation. Trusts
but verify should be my new way of thought and sometimes good people may come
out on the short end, but I refuse to allow myself to be “Stupid” again.
I will find out by the 1st of June when I get the
check, how much of my money is returned, but no matter what the amount is, this
event has changed me and I don’t know if it will be for the better, but it will
make me more efficient in my way of doing business and the way I look at
people. Trust but verify is my new way from now on and I hope I will never have
to look at myself as stupid again.
