Why do Realtors get blamed for everything?
It used to be that a Realtor made recommendations for all
the services for their clients, but now many Realtors shy away from that
practice due to the risks involved.
For example, if a Realtor gives a recommendation for a home
inspector and even if they give 3 names for the buyer to choose from, the
Realtor will get the blame if the Buyer is not happy with the inspection.
But why blame the Realtor, he or she are making recommendations
that they feel are good for the client, but
it is the clients responsibility to make the final choice of what
inspector to use. They can use one of the three that were recommended by the
Realtor, or they can get one of their own. The responsibility is on the client,
not the Realtor.
No one wants to take the responsibility when things may not
work out the way they want. Blaming the Realtor and making the Realtor the
punching bag seems to be the norm. Now I understand that Realtors are not
perfect people and in some cases do things that give all Realtors a bad name,
but for the most part, most Realtors do their job and it is a very difficult
job. Getting two parties together and getting through a process that takes 30 to
45 days can be a grueling task and it take great skill to do it and do it the
right way.
As Realtors and Brokers, we have so many rules to follow and the
risk of getting the blame for things that go wrong, create Realtors who refuse
to give any recommendations to their clients to avoid any risk at all.
Risk management is a very big part of a Real Estate office
and making sure Realtors understand what to do in a Real Estate transaction is
key to avoiding risk.
Realtors need to understand that whatever they do,
they will get the blame for things that they have nothing to do with and that
is just the way business is done in Real Estate. So if you don’t have a very
thick skin, this is not the business for you.
