For some, It is just not the right time to buy
I was talking to a very good Tenant yesterday doing my semiannual
Smoke Alarm check and the conversation turned to home ownership. These Tenants
pay $2250.00 and they are always on time with the rent. They ask for very little
and the home is kept up very nice. I was wondering why they continue to rent,
so I asked.
The answer was not really surprising, he said that he has
been interviewing for another job in another state for a while and he and his
wife are just not ready to settle in one area yet. That answer makes sense and
for me as a Property Manager, I hope they stay for many years to come.
This reason for not buying a home is a very good reason and
the fact that people are willing to move from the job they have to a better job
in another area is a good sign for the economy.
For the last few years if you
had a job, you did not risk losing that job for another and especially in
another state, but when things are good, people, especially younger people have
a tendency to want to move around and try out new things and want to get a
fresh start in a new area of the Country.
In my business of Property Management in Orange County
California, I have the pleasure of meeting people who have moved here from other states and I see the excitement they feel in coming to Southern
California, a place that they have heard so much about. For some, So Cal is a
great place to be and they will never leave, but for others the fast pace and
the expense of living here is a bit much and they get out as soon as they can,
but the beauty of being able to move around until you find the place you want
to put down roots is a great luxury and as much as I am a huge proponent of
home ownership, the ability to just get up and go is a great asset and should
be embraced by people who have the desire to move around.
In talking to the Tenant, I understood his wanting to put
off purchasing a home, but as I told him, If he is going to stay where he is,
it will be to his advantage to buy instead of paying $2250 of someone else’s
mortgage.
