The natural look
To me there is nothing more beautiful than the natural look
of wood. I remember a few years ago, I witnessed homeowner paint a beautiful
redwood deck. I used the term witnessed, because I considered it a crime. To
cover the natural beauty of that redwood deck made no sense and the reason that
was given was that he felt the deck would last longer if it was protected by
the paint.
That reason made no sense, there are many ways to protect a wood deck without painting it. Redwood is a great wood to use for outdoor decking and many
other uses, but all kinds of wood can be used and enjoyed in their natural
state.
I put oak flooring and stairs inside my home and l did not use any
stain, just a sealer. I also like to use Doug fir and I also leave it natural.
The great thing about Doug fur is the cost is very reasonable and if you put
some time in and sand all the rough spots, you can be very creative at a very
reasonable price. Pine is also a reasonably prices wood and just like Doug fur,
if you put in some time, you can use pine for almost anything. Pine is also
used for flooring, just like oak and many other woods.
People ask me, what I use to protect the wood and leave it
in a natural state. I like the Bona Products. I like to use water based
products. I use the same product on the floor and on other natural wood
surfaces.
