The Rise of Hardwood Floors
Many times
when I was working on an older home and we ripped out the carpet, there was a
beautiful Hardwood floor underneath. These floors were thick and all they
needed was some TLC. It was awful to see these floors covered up with carpet.
Times they
are changing and now Hardwood floors are making a huge comeback.
If you have
ever seen a carpet removed from a home and watched as all the dirt and dust fly
all over the house, you would never have carpet in your home again. It is no
wonder that people have so many allergies, because no matter how often you
clean your carpet, they are like sponges and collect everything that falls
between the piles.
Today,
instead of covering up the Hardwood floor with carpet, the carpet is being
ripped out and replaced with a hardwood floor.
In my business of Property
Management in Orange County Ca. I recommend to my clients, that when it is time
to replace the carpet, to either put in Hardwood flooring, or tile. Tile in a
rental property is probable the best choice, because of the ease of cleaning
and durability, but a hardwood floor can really make a home more desirable.
There are
many types of hardwood flooring and also many colors. Hardwood floors can be
very expensive to have put in, or if you are willing to do the labor yourself
it can be very reasonable. I have mentioned Lumber Liquidators before and I
still think they are a great source for wood flooring. Their store customer
service stinks, at least in my experience, but if you don’t need that personal
service, they are very good. The last time I was in their store, I was picking
up some material I had ordered and the woman behind the counter was cleaning off
the counter. Instead of stopping and helping me, she made me wait until she was
finished and then with a very dismissive attitude helped me. For me, that type
of non service for the flooring is OK, because I was not looking for any
advice, I just wanted the floor I ordered and the price was great, but if you
need more, then you may want to avoid Lumber Liquidators.
If you like
the look of a hardwood floor and you live in an older home that has carpet, you
may be lucky and there may be a beautiful hardwood floor underneath just waiting to be discovered.
