The Grand opening of No. 300
The IN N OUT Burger near my office finally opened yesterday and it was
quite an event. The drive through was 5 lanes wide squeezing into a single
line. The media had their reporters there for TV, and they were giving away
hats, but unfortunately only for the dining room customers and not the drive
through. The police were doing traffic control and the tremendous showing of IN
N OUT employees was amazing. Even the Reclusive owner showed up to cut the ribbon.
This restaurant is about 1 mile from Disneyland, a few blocks from
Anaheim Stadium and the Honda Center, so I’m sure the crowds, though they will
not be this crazy, will still be substantial once the grand opening fades.
There is a Carls Jr. across the street and I wonder how having an IN N OUT this
close will affect their business? I think there is a chance that it may help
them, but only time will tell.
The amazing part is that with all the crowds, the efficiency and customer
service did not suffer, although they did forget my side of chilies, I can
forgive them.
I have written about IN N OUT before, obviously I’m a fan of the food,
but as a small business owner in the business of Property Management in Orange County Ca. I am a fan of the way they operate. I talk to
the employees every time I am there and talk to them about the process they go
through as they work their way up the ladder. It is such an amazing procedure
that it make me feel inadequate in my procedures. The attention to detail and
getting all the employees to work together under enormous pressure and in tight
quarters is a pleasure to watch. I have never seen any of the employees argue
with each other or even complain. They seem to all get along, at least when
they are at work. How often have you gone into a store and been treated to employee
discontent with each other. Never at an IN N OUT. I would imagine if that
happened, they would be looking for another job.
Just for purpose of research, I will be at the new IN N OUT again
today, I guess while I am there, I will get a burger or two!
