If you do your best, will you succeed?
We are often told that we can be whatever we want to be, and do whatever
we want to do, if we just work hard. Is that true? We often hear stories of
people overcoming the odds, because they just stuck to their dream and now they
are reaping the benefits of their hard work. But what if you work real hard and
stick to your dream and fail. Is it your fault?
There is no substitute for hard work in life and most people who are successful
have worked very hard, but the reality is that you can work as hard as others
who have succeeded and fail. But does that mean that you just did not have what
it takes to be a success? Are you less of a person then the successful?
The answer of these two questions is no.
Not everyone will succeed no
matter how hard you work, or how much you followed your dream and it takes
nothing away from your effort, it is a situation where it just did not work
out.
Let’s say you always wanted to be a professional Baseball Player and
you work hard every day for years. You work your way up through the ranks and
are a well respected player, but when it comes time for the pro’s to want you,
it does not happen. Why did it happen? Why did all your hard work not pay off? You
worked harder than everyone else, you practiced when everyone else was out
doing other things, you made yourself a good player, but others who did not
work as hard got their shot at the pro’s, but you did not. Are you a failure? Absolutely
not, your hard work may have not taken you to the ends that you had dreamed of,
but it did build your character to use for another endeavor down the line.
Society seems to look at people who don’t succeed at their dreams as failures,
or if you don’t find success in life at a certain age, you have failed, but all
this is silly and should be ignored. In my business of Property Management in
Anaheim Ca. I deal with many people who have had hard times in life at no fault
of their own. They worked hard and followed their dream, but for some reason
life got in the way and things did not go the way they wanted it to. The most
important thing to remember is not to give up.
I heard a quote one time, and I
think it was from Mike Ditka, the former football player and coach. He said
that "You only lose when you stop trying". Now he was talking about football, but
you can also use this for everyday life. As long as you keep trying in life and
pick yourself up from any let downs and setbacks, then you have not lost in the
game of life.
