Is the past the best barometer of things to come?
When we look to the past we often can find things that have
happened and seem to be happening again and sometimes it seems as though we are
in one big circle and the same events happen over and over.
As people we forget the past and with that lack of memory we
forget the pain and in some cases that is good, but much of the past is a barometer of things to come because as
much as societies change from generation to generation, things really stay the
same.
Think about it, we have come a long way from people who
lived 1000 years ago, but we still have the same needs, we need food as they
did and we need shelter as they did, we are susceptible to weather and illness
and we all are mortal and will leave this world some day. So even though we are
in many ways different, the most important thing in life remain the same,
staying alive. We just go about it in different ways.
I have told the story before, but One of the few TV shows I
like to watch is the old 70’s “Columbo” series and even though it does not seem
like the 70 were that long ago, 40 years is a long time. Anyway I was watching
an episode and one of the characters was listening to the radio and the news
was about Middle East Peace, don’t we hear about that still today?
It seems as though this topic is in a circle and to me I
think it is a good example of how life is one big circle and through hundreds
of years people seem to fall into the same patterns no matter when they lived.
Think about our lives today, we have so much modern technology and so many
things are much easier today than they were 1000 years ago and we can travel to
the ends of the earth and back in a day, but everything we do is the same as
all the people did who ever walked the earth, again we work for food, shelter
and protection from outside risk, so are we really any different.
I really think that the world and maybe the universe is one
big circle and whatever is going to happen has already happened in one form or
another.
It sort of reminds me of Situation Comedies we see on TV, they have
different actors but everything they do today was already done on the “I Love
Lucy” shows from the 1950’s and in my business of Property Management in
Anaheim Ca, Every excuse a Tenant has for not paying the rent has been used
probably 1000 years before.
