Getting through the rough times
So
often, when we go through rough economic times, it’s because of a business
cycle. We all remember the 2008 crash and how long it took to recover. This
time it’s different, there was no problem with the economy, this was a
government mandated shutdown. We can argue about the way things have been done,
but that will help no one. We have to look forward and not back, so let’s look
forward and since my business is Real Estate, let’s talk Real Estate.
Let’s look at interest rates. As of the time I am writing this article, the 30 year
fixed rate is 3.790%. There are many different products out there that can even
get you a lower rate, so despite the short term economic slowdown, it is a
great time to buy if you are in a position to do so. Now, another great
opportunity for home buyers is that many people have put buying a home on hold.
For the buyer who is ready to buy right now, you are in a great position to
bargain. People who need to sell now are going to be a little more open to negotiation
then they might have been a month ago. Now if you have concerns about your job
situation, buying a home would not be the best thing to do, but once this crisis
is over, I expect that people will not only be buying homes but everything else
they have been missing.
Take advantage when you can
Now
none of us should hoard anything in these difficult times. What has been
happening to toilet paper and paper towels has been very disappointing. But there
are things that you can take advantage of during these difficult times. My
favorite is “Costco” gas. Now I haven’t been able to go to “Costco” like I usually
do to shop, because of the crowds and shortage of goods, but gas has been a
different story. I never get to purchase “Costco” gas, because of the very long
lines, but now, I make sure I am filled up every day because the price is great
and the lines have been short or none at all. This also may be a great time to
book a trip. Since no one is traveling, booking trips for the future could get
you some very good prices. Buying any large ticket items, like appliances or
cars could also be a great way to save some money.
Getting
through these rough times is not easy, but we all know it will pass and whether
you are stuck in your home or not, we all have to look to the future and not
get dragged into the negative attitude that following the numbers everyday can
lead us to. There are always going to be bad things that happen, but we need to
be positive. My suggestion, turn off the TV and find something else to occupy
your time. You will be much happier and hopefully healthier.
